STI's Operation Shoebox 2010!

STI College Zamboanga, together with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University spearheaded an outreach program, dubbed, OPERATION SHOEBOX on August 31, 2010. This outreach program will benefit pupils from rural elementary schools in Zamboanga city.

Operation Shoebox first operated as an outreach project of the Education Academic Organization (ADZU) before it spread to other schools.

Objectives:

  • Social awareness and involvement are inculcated among students.

  • The students gain insights that mold their attitudes towardsocial crises.

  • The recipients gain meaningful experiences on being “men and women for others.”

The IDEA...

The idea is to adopt a child when preparing one shoebox. Think about what he/she needs and what will make him/her smile...

Ok, so the day came for the distribution of the gifts. All gifts were loaded into the bus. Students from the Nursing department took part in the distribution. Representatives from the IT and GE faculty also participated in the distribution.

But, it was through the efforts of Ms. Honeylane Atilano and Mr. Renan Fernando, that STI's Operation Shoebox became a reality. Ms. Atilano was part of the pioneering Operation Shoebox Team.

Public schools which benefited from the outreach program were the following:

  1. Lumabangan Elementary School
  2. Upper Pasonanca Elementary School
  3. St. Francis Orphanage, Pasonanca

It was such a great feeling seeing all those kid's smiles as they opened their gifts.

Below are some pictures taken from the activity...

It was a great experience... and we had FUN!!!
